Wilcocks Foundation

With success comes responsibility. Through recognising our responsibilities a philanthropic approach to business has evolved at Wilcocks & Associates.

A definitive commitment to meaningful giving and support services is one of the hallmarks of Wilcocks & Associates.

During difficult economic conditions it is more important than ever to support those in need of help. Wilcocks & Associates first experience of giving something back to society was through the last UK Labour Government’s Future Jobs Scheme which ran in 2010.

A central theory of some anthropologic and socio-economic studies is that young people only truly develop into adults when they engage with adults, and this experience typically comes through employment and interaction with 'outsiders', as opposed to parents who may well have also had a disadvantaged upbringing. Such intergenerational disadvantages are often referred to as the poverty cycle, or poverty trap.

The Future Jobs Scheme relied on successful businesses to provide work experience to disadvantaged 16-19 year olds in the Merseyside area. In our case the experience on offer was to work within a fast moving global firm with numerous memebers of highly qualified staff. The aim was, of course, to develop interpersonal skills and broaden the children’s limited horizons; to give them an insight in what can be achieved.

The ultimate aim of programmes such as this is to help break the poverty trap intergenerational reliance on state aid whilst improving standards of living in some of the most disadvantaged areas in Europe.

The success of this scheme led us to support of a similar scheme in 2011 which was in conjunction with Liverpool John Moores University, this time giving a chance for hungry yet unemployed graduates to win one of two permanent employed contracts. This led to one successful graduate return to the university to speak to current undergraduates of his experiences and hopefully act as an example of what can be achieved through persistence and hard work.

In 2011 the Wilcocks & Associates Foundation has been established to formalise the Directors' vision for corporate social responsibility. The foundation is not for profit and is committed to giving back to the communities in which we live and work. The Foundation is going to be funded by the owners and partners of the company. From August 2011 10% of profits from estate planning, insurance and mortgage services are to be placed within the Foundation, which will ultimately distribute the money via chosen charities (at the time of going to press specific charity partners are still to be confirmed, but there will be a particular focus on helping disadvantaged children).

If you would like to propose a charity for the Foundation to partner with, or just talk more about our philanthropic philosophy, please do not hesitate to get in touch. Email enquiries@wilcocksassociates.co.uk or call 0151 601 4390.
